We are a cutting edge company that stores video in the cloud and lets our user's view it from there. In that respect, we're not so cutting edge as youtube has been in this space for a while. However, we also layer on cutting edge analytics on top of the video to help store owners and other users of security footage dig through piles of video to get to what they want to fast. Most web based (and even desktop based) DVR software is very uninspired and cold and with a horrible aesthetic. This should be a design which is very usable and beautiful and simple at the same time.

If you have designed any flex applications that would be great, but definitely not required. I like how picnik.com uses design with flex, though their's is a bit to bubbley for what we need. Know user experience design, no matter how pretty the design is useless unless our customer instantly knows what to do with the site.
I have attached a picture of our existing ugly baby so you can see that we need a lot of work. Do not feel constrained by the layout of the page, we want you to feel free to do whatever works best for our users. Like I said above, I love the container from picnik.com, but do not want a carbon copy of it. The workflow for the user is that they will get an email highlighting certain events in the video. They receive a link in the email which goes directly to the video (saving them a ton of time wading through pointless video). They can then further search the video. I have attached a screen shot of the existing application which you can see is a bit....not pretty. I have also attached the vision from another designer. I am looking for something wholly different from both of these designs. I am getting input from a number of sources so will pull in inspiration from a number of different places.
In the end I will need buttons/tabs (anything clickable) to have three different state buttons (off/over/clicked and sometimes on as in the case of play/pause). I'm expecting that you are doing the mockup in Photoshop. In the usability, it should be dead simple to choose historic video versus live video (preferably on the same page).
I have also attached some screenshots of other security software out there so you can see what we're up against.
