Rhythms of India
Rhythms of India is a dance school and performance team based in Seattle. Our dances classes cover bollywood (think Jai Ho), bhangra (traditional folk dance), and other related styles of dance. Also, our advanced students regularly are hired out to perform for weddings, cultural events, fundraisers, parties, etc. Our mission is twofold: to spread awareness of this fun aspect of Indian culture and also to provide Indian families a way for their kids to stay in touch with their culture. As such, our classes are open to anyone! Any age, skill level, cultural background, etc.!
Our website is a good place to start to get a feel for us: rhythmsofindia.net -- please do a little light reading, watch the videos, and browse through our photos.
The main target is our students (all ages, both genders). We want a design that's something that they'd want to buy if they see it -- and that they'd wear to class and, even better, wear outside of class.
Secondarily then, ideally the design should be generally eye-catching as well so that it could be worn casually outside of class and serve as a minor publicity for Rhythms of India.
The design should have three components. One half of the design should have a bhangra theme and the other half a bollywood theme (more details later). Thirdly, the name of our school, "Rhythms of India," should be somewhere, though it should not dominate the design. Ideally, the name should be integrated into the design in a creative way.
We are leaning towards vectors, gradients, and other stylized designs over photos or organic artwork. We have no existing logo or color scheme. Feel free to be creative, though the color combinations should generally have the right feel for each theme -- see pictures, videos.
The two themes:
Bhangra
Check out videos at http://www.gabroo.tv/ to get the right feel. Note certain combinations of colors, the look and feel of the costumes and props. Generally masculine, rough, tough, energetic, and loud.
Attached bhangra cd cover has overall nice feel, minus the speakers and flames, and the guy is borderline too "organic".
Bollywood
Bolylwood is more general, but to contrast with bhangra, it should be lean toward the feminine, softer, and elegant. See these videos for the feel we're looking for:

Attached bollywood poster is mostly nice, except we probably prefer a silhouette over a photo.
Need Illustrator or Photoshop files.
