Hello finalist and thanks for all the great designs thus far. With each design that comes in we get more excited and closer to a final product. Although the contest is to lock down the overall look and feel we would love to see supporting and cohesive designs for both the interior of the box and the individual soap boxes that will be inside the main box. Don't forget to watch the youtube video that shows the blank prototype box...
For the main box we are liking the nature/jungle/forest and waterfall type scene. However we are still exploring and pushing you all to find ways to simplify that look while at the same time reinforcing the message that we are donating bars and trying to saves lives with any customer purchase. We are open to non nature type scenes as well especially if they show the donation and cause based side of the product. After seeing more designs here are some ideas for item that could be updated or added to the main box exterior...
- more clear message about the donation. Something like... you buy soap. we donate soap OR when you buy soap. We donate soap
- buy and use this product and save lives - basically something that speaks more about helping eliminate preventable death or perhaps a badge that says... Everyday Product that Saves Lives or Help Eliminate Preventable death.
The interior of the box will focus on the benefits or the soap and that the customer can has donated a bar of soap but there is more to do and ways they can help even after they have purchased the soap.
3 of the 4 individual bars of soap will have a full sized bar for the customers use. The 4th bar represents that bar that we have donated because the customer has purchased the package. We want to surprise the customer with a travel sized bar of soap that we ask they share with friends or family.
We also want to push the social sharing idea and have them @osanabar, take pictures, etc. all the while stressing that any time they spread the word it is helping to save lives.
The four bars can all be different designs or 3 can be the same and the donation bar can be different. We are open to creativity.
Each individual box needs to have the web address and logo on it. The rest is up for your creativity and we will add messaging as designs start flowing.

Our goal for this contest is to tell our story and how customers can engage and make an impact by using an everyday product. We need a design that will grab the attention and emotion of a customer when looking at the exterior of the box and then inspire them to take further action once they have opened the box. Our biggest selling points in tandem with the story is that the soap is mosquito repellent and it is all natural.

We like the idea of an impact statement to draw folks in but ultimately the visual elements and design is going to be what get customers to pick up the box and begin to engage in the story and understand that soap will be donated because of their purchase of this package. Once they open the box we want to really emphasize that their purchase has allowed us to donate a bar on their behalf, but they can still do more by sharing a bar and sharing on social media. Here is our current impact statement…
1.8M people die every year from malaria and sanitation based illnesses - when you purchase and use Osana you help to eliminate preventable deaths around the world!
The inside of the box will contain four standard soap bar boxes (3 boxes have standard sized bars and the fourth bar contains a travel sized bar within a standard sized box - see reference images). The designs can all be different or the same with the exception of the donated bar having that extra emphasis to reinforce that Osana has donated a bar on their behalf.
Once they have connected with the message that a bar has been given away because of their purchase we want them to understand that there is more opportunity to take action. The box that represents their donation also contains a small travel sized bar that we want people to give away to friends and family. One side of the donation box can speak to the idea that they have donated a bar and the other can speak to the idea taking more action by sharing of the travel sized bar with a friend or family member.
Throughout the packaging (we were thinking on the inside) encouraging people to share on social media is going to be huge. Mentioned @osanabar and taking photos is huge. This will help sell more soap and allow us to help more people. Any creative thoughts on how we can get people to do so is encouraged.

Your canvas will be a brown recycled looking kraft card stock and the challenge is that we are limited to a 2 color print job however the design can be on the outside AND inside of the main box(the inside lid, under the four soap bars, etc.) and the four soap boxes as well.
There are other details to include such as ingredients, instructions for best results, etc. but again the main goal of this contest is going to be coming up with the overall vibe and design.
