Insight Outpost aims to be the premier forum for user-submitted satire. People can submit news satire, humorous rants, etc, and then other people vote it up or down. The posts with the most upvotes will be displayed more prominently.
Later on, site will hopefully become a destination for niche humor in fields such as finance, law, medicine, etc.
Similar to The Onion’s audience. College-educated, affluent, articulate, and perhaps slightly jaded people who want to laugh at the absurdities of life in general or a subject they know well.
The logo should consist of a black and white drawing of a great horned owl stretching upward, turning its head slightly, and gazing intently in to the middle distance (i.e. facing the viewer, but not staring directly at him/her). Please see attached drawing of owl for a good example.
To the right of the owl it should say Insight Outpost. Below that it could also have our tagline, which is Drop Some Wisdom.
By way of background, the owl doesn't need to be very detailed. Please use simple black brushstrokes, so that the picture is similar in composition to the attached gazebo drawing. No gray, no shading, and the fewer brushstrokes, the better.
No stock images or clip art please.
In terms of feel, the logo (and especially the owl) should convey the same tongue-in-cheek gravitas of the Colbert Report. So it shouldn’t look cartoonish, and no bubble lettering or zany fonts. However, if you were able to subtly give the owl a comically profound or serious expression on its face, that would work very well.
