Melbourne Stencil Festival


The first Melbourne Stencil Festival was held in North Melbourne in 2004. The 3-day exhibition attracted audience numbers far beyond expectation. Its sell-out show was soon talk of town amongst those who had visited the festival and those who had missed out.

The 2005 festival was a 10-day exhibition at the Meat Market art complex. The festival was supported by the City of Melbourne and saw more than 700 visitors on the opening night. In 2006 the festival moved to Fitzroy, the heart of street art in Melbourne, and was held at the Rose St Artists Market. For the first time the 4-day event was also held in Sydney. It received reviews in major mainstream media in Melbourne and Sydney.

In 2007 the festival featured a total of 75 artists from 12 countries with more than 300 works. More than 4000 visitors attended the Melbourne event. It also attracted media coverage including daily newspapers, community radio and street press. It toured regionally with the support of Arts Victoria, and on its own effort interstate to Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

In 2008 the festival again attracted large numbers, with over 5000 people attending. International artists joined Melbourne’s best artist producing a diverse display of stencil art. The draw card of the festival was the live spraying events which generated stunning collaborative pieces that were strongly sought after in charity auction.

Festival goers, both those who have been to the Festival in preceding years and those who have not been before. The Festival's audience is diverse from an age and gender perspective, all festival goers share a love of street and urban art, street and urban culture.

The Festival's current website is at - this will be updated this year for the new Festival, to be known as 'Sweet Streets'.


1. Most importantly a logo - which has to read "Sweet Streets" - can have an accompanying graphic, or this can be integrated into the style of the text

2. Also need to include our Tag Line: "A Festival of Urban and Street Art"

3. A Header Font that ties in with the logo for the website content pages/printed press/media releases etc.

4. A Colour Palette for the whole "look" of the festival - this will probably be dictated by the colours you use in the logo. The colour palette will be used consistently across all media, all over our website to keep everything consistent in our branding. You might want to suggest say 3-4 primary colours, and 3-4 secondary.

The second project that we will run on 99Designs will be for the Wordpress designs for the Festival, this will use the colour palette suggested in the logo design and Branding completed here.

The current website at is a good place to start to get an idea of the Festival and what we are about, keep in mind that this will be updated this year and the style and feel of the new website will be informed by the new Brand. The Festival is a celebration of urban and street art and as such the feel of the brand should sit well in this space.
