Southern Eye Bank
Southern Eye Bank is a non-profit eye bank based in New Orleans and supplies eye tissue to ophthalmologists in Louisiana, throughout the United States, and internationally. Southern Eye Bank was founded in 1947, is the fourth oldest eye bank in the United States and the only one in the southern United States until 1953. Southern Eye Bank is a fully accredited charter member of the Eye Bank Association of America.
When someone has a corneal blindness, the only cure is a cornea tranplant. There is no substitute for a human cornea. When someone passes away, their eye tissue can be used for transplant and restore sight.
To preserve and restore sight, the Southern Eye Bank recovers, processes and distributes donor tissue for ocular surgery and research based on need.
We educate the public about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation but we are eye specific and that is our focus. We encourage people to register to be donors.
We also work with and educate hospital and other entities about the donation process (someone passes away and had registered to be a donor or their family consents to donation).
Our current logo is somewhat dated in our opinion and people often confuse us with lending institutions (banks). The confusion seems to be because the current logo's "eye" can be hard to see (no pun intended).
We have two target audiences:
1. The community that we serve and who will be our future eye donors.
2. The hospitals and entities that we work with during the donation process (funeral homes, coroner offices, hospices, other eye banks and organ procurement agencies).
We use our logo on pamplets, brochures, displays, letterhead, business cards, promotional items, company shirts, our website and our business sign.
The design should:
-name should be legible
-logo can be over name or on the side
-logo can be used without name
-two color with black being one of them (but not black and gold)
-other could be red or green
-eye bank should be on one line.
-we would like an eye design of some sort be in the logo
-but not be either too life-like or cartoonish.
-we like the idea of incorporating a fleur-de-lis into the eye
-the fleur-de-lis should be simple and not too big
-we would like to incorporate "restoring sight since 1947" but not a must
-either in the logo or as a "tag line" to the name
-We are open to other ideas
I've attched two old logos and a new logo that an employee came up with that is an idea of what we are thinking of.
