TackyNotes
I'm a fellow 99 designer, though admittedly I'm not very good, which is why I'm here posting a project instead of entering one. Programming is more my forte and I've decided to leave the design work up to the guys who know how to do it - namely, YOU!
The product I need a logo for is called TackyNotes. If you're thinking that sounds like Sticky Notes, you're on the right track. TackyNotes is basically a browser based version of Sticky Notes. The core component of product is a browser extension (Chrome and hopefully Firefox) that lets you add TackyNotes to a web page. There will also be another component which is a Web App (website) that you can log into to see your notes all over the web.
Okay, so what am I looking for visual wise? I want something that leans more towards professional that cartoon, but that doesn't mean you can't have a little fun with it. It's also okay to be obvious and use an actual "Sticky Note" in the logo. Don't plagiarize the Post-It logo, though. If I haven't explain it enough, please ask away.
Target audience are probably geeks who spend a lot of time in their browser and aren't afraid to install extensions. So think Firefox users and Chrome users. The app itself will likely cater to people doing research and web development as well, since I'm hunch tells me those are the types of people who want to add "notes" to a page that they could review later.
Do:
Include the text "TackyNotes" with your choice of casing.
Please incorporate a simple (few colors) graphic into the logo.
Actual "Sticky Notes" graphics are okay, but there will probably be several designers going that route, so try to stand out.
Please incorporate the text "TackyNotes" into the logo. Casing does not have to be strictly adhered to. If you think "tackyNotes" or "tackynotes" looks better, go for it.
Dont:
Resemble the 3M or Post-IT logos too closely.
Resmeble the Posterous logo too closely.
Don't lean too far towards cartoonish, unless you really think you have a concept that is kill.
Additional Thoughts:
I had played around with the idea of a traditional "Sticky Note" being "digitized" into the actual text "TackyNotes". If you've ever seen Willy Wonk and the Chocolate Factory, imagine the scene where the one boy is "zapped" into the TV. During the process, he is "digitized" into the air and there are a bunch of particles flowing over the heads of the other children. If you can somehow visual this into the logo, that would be great. (I've attached and idea for this, but it's very basic - please feel free to explore this idea or any others you have.)
Again, would love the graphic in the logo to be able to stand alone and still represent a "note", but that is not required.
