Hopefully, one of the most exciting briefs you’ll come across at 99designs.

Whodeani is in need of a logo, but it’s far from the usual corporate graphic design job.

Firstly Whodeani (pronounced Who-Dean-E) is not your average brand. It is the essence of me Dean Jones, the founder, both personally and professionally.

Once completed, the Whodeani logo/imagery will be used both within my corporate ID (business cards, letterheads etc…) and within my official website located at http://www.whodeani.com (Note: there is a temporary website there at the moment that will be updated shortly after the completion of this competition.)

Qu'est-ce qui vous inspire et comment imaginez-vous le design de votre entreprise?

It is vital that the logo conveys both trustworthiness and ‘magic’ (without being tricky)… the magic of bringing ideas to life.
This (‘The Magic of Bringing Ideas to Life’) is the essence of the Whodeani brand – particularly regarding entrepreneurship. It expresses the ability to see opportunity, identify pathways and bring ideas to life that are beyond the ordinary, beyond what most people would expect.
The Whodeani logo should convey a sense of wonder and progress.
It must also be very confident (not cocky) and captivating (enticing, not misleading) and striking (individual and aesthetically compelling in its own right).
I like to do things differently. As an example, I envisage the business card to have no contact details on it – simply the logo/image.
The identity must be so distinctive and intriguing that people then go on to search for Whodeani to find out more. (Currently if you do a search on Google.com for ‘Whodeani’, all 10 results on the first page are related to me with my Twitter account, Official blog, Website and LinkedIn profile all in the top 5 results.)

A logo & visual ID. - Stylistically, Whodeani has a need for an illustrated logo graphic and associated symbols in addition to typeface. It must have an ‘old world’ feel but with ‘new world’ relations. It  should be highly detailed.  This may take the form of an etching style or graphically realistic technical illustration. A sense of magic and showmanship is appropriate. 
- Draw inspiration from from Movies such as ‘Wild Wild West’ featuring Will Smith.  And we’re particularly fond of elements from films such as ‘The Prestige’ and ‘The Illusionist’.
The clothing and devices used in these eras are very ‘Whodeani’.

The video game ‘Bio Shock’ can also be referenced.- Think Artisan. Someone who is highly skilled, creates objects of great beauty, employing only imagination, manual dexterity, tools and material. Relevant to an era of industrial revolution. A time of great wonder, driven by men of great ambition whose ideas and inventions changed the world.- Also envisage steam punk art, a sub-genre of  fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where   steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era  England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of   H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date.   The use of industrial revolution machinery mixed with a modern element.- Importantly the work needs to look a) complete, b) grounded and c) that it could actually function (that is that it 'could' conceivably operate.)

Ne veut pas

- Abstract. What ever is produced needs to look ‘fantastic’ yet grounded. It can’t be abstract.- Montage of elements. Do not want a variety of disparate elements ‘blended’ together. Final logo/imagery needs to look ‘whole’ or complete.- Cyborg. For some reason when mentioning styles like Steampunk, many people conjure up images of half human, half cyborg. Ie a head with a robot eye or whatever. While happy to have ‘machinery’ connected to me (should you choose to include me in the entered logo/imagery) this can not be at the expense of any ‘organic’ element you would normally expect to find within such an image.
