The Biophilic Cities Project is an umbrella term that refers to research and policy work on biophilic cities, both domestically and internationally, by Professor Tim Beatley and his team at the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture. Biophilic cities are cities that promote and celebrate urban nature and work to enhance the connections between this nature and residents. Its principal aim is to advance the theory and practice of planning for biophilic cities, through a combination of collaborative research, dialogue and exchange, teaching. Researchers at UVA partner with in-country collaborators, to assess and monitor biophilic urban qualities and conditions, to identify obstacles and impediments to achieving more biophilic cities, and to identify and document best practices in biophilic urban design and planning. The Project helps foster discussion and dialogue between and among researchers (and planners and policymakers in case study cities), periodically convenes researchers, and publishes working papers, reports and other publications that disseminate the findings of the project work, and spread the message about biophilic cities. We are launching a global network early this summer where cities can join and work towards meeting specific goals to become more biophilic.

Inspiration de design
The director of the project would really like to see both elements of the project, city and nature, represented in the logo. He does not want to see a leaf as a representation of nature since this has been overdone. He is also not a huge fan of flat design. He has expressed interest in a wood burn effect. Since 2012, we have been using a mushroom as a placeholder for a logo, but are really open to new ideas. Our website is http://www.biophiliccities.org, but we are overhauling it currently to update it. We would like to launch a new logo with our new site.
