Legend Martial Arts
We have two members in our company: a male brazilian jiu jitsu blackbelt who is a seasoned professsional mma fighter and a female amateur muay thai fighter who is leaving a career as an attorney. We are both 30 years old. Our hope is to grow the gym slowly, build a solid student base and expand into mma fight promotions in the next 1-3 years. We are both taking a financial risk as well as changing our lives significantly to start the gym, but we could not be happier or more excited about the possibilities that lay before us.
Both of us have extensive sports coaching backgrounds and want to continue teaching athletes of all levels. We believe that the best way to learn a discipline is to teach it and we both intend to continue training and fighting in our own right in addition to running the gym.
Our company personality is young and bold - both of us are covered in tattoos and own rescued pit bulls. Brazilian culture is important to us, as one member of the company was raised in Brazil. We strive to provide a positive experience for everyone who walks through the gym doors, whether they are a pro-fighter, a middle-aged mother of three or an eight year old child. We want our company identity to reflect who we are as people but not to the point of being intimidating or off-putting. We want the gym to be a place where all people feel welcome and important.
Our gym is located in south Florida where there are already many mma gyms. However, there are no gyms in a 10-12 miles radius of us. The gyms that are nearby are focused primarily on children's programs or karate. Because we are located on the coast, this is a body-conscious market.
There are several colleges within 10 miles of the gym which we plan on targeting. We want to take advantage of the 17-22 year olds who are local to the area. We will offer conditioning programs for college athletes, as well as cardio kickboxing for women, weekend conditioning bootcamps for fighters as well as those looking for a great workout and, of course, brazilian jiu jitsu, boxing, muay thai and mma classes. There will be classes available for all levels of skill, experience and fitness.
There are several churches and schools close to the gym that we want to target. This is a different market than the colleges - the cardio boxing and bootcamps will likely appeal to mothers and other adults who want to improve their fitness but there are also a lot of children in the area. We want to implement an after-school program to teach kids martial arts basics in a fun environment and give them something productive to do after school instead of sitting at home on the couch. It's important that our identity does not turn these people off from the gym. They are more conservative than the college crowd.
The logo needs to be clean, bold and easily identifiable. It will be on all of the gym clothing, fight gear, marketing materials, etc., so we want it to function as an emblem. We want it to be circular, with "legend martial arts" written clearly. We envisioned the gym name being written along the outside of the circle but are definitely open to other ideas. We are also open to different font choices.
Color-wise, we want to incorporate royal blue because it's the primary color inside the gym. Other colors are up to you - one of us is american and one is brazilian, so a play on both countries, either through color or image, would be cool.
Inside the circle, we are open to anything you envision. It could be the gym initials ("LMA") in some form or it could be some sort of fight imagery. One idea that we had was to put silhouette images of a mauy thai fighter and a jiu jitsu practioner inside the circle. That's just one idea - we are truly open to anything and are really excited to see what people design for us. Thanks!
