I'm a psychotherapist in Maryland specializing in eating disorders, emotional eating, body image, and bariatric surgery patients. What I really want to focus on in this design is that the body is something we should learn to feel rather than view. It should be cherished, not judged. It is about how the body moves, creates, breathes, and functions.
I also work with bariatric surgery patients, those who have massive weight loss surgery such as gastric bypass and lap-band surgeries.
We now have a nutritionist who specializes in childhood obesity issues to help families learn how to shop and eat healthy. It's my job to work with them to learn a new language, that life is about "I want" not "I must." We take the self-loathing and turn it in time into self-esteem. The body image changes as a result of the internal changes, not the external.

I'm targeting eating disorder patients, of which 80% are women and girls. I also am targeting emotional eaters, those who feel they can't stop thinking about food and desperately want to. There are self-esteem issues, of course, but it is often about feeling like life is out of control and chaotic. They are looking for peace in their lives, homes, and families.
What I currently use is a form of the Vitruvian man by Michaelangelo. It has the right idea, that the body is about form and function. But it doesn't grab me. It's also in black and white. I want to show color, my favorite being blue, but I also want to draw in the major audience, which is women and girls. It has to have something modern to it to catch teens, but also not be overwhelming so that their parents will pick up the brochure or stay on the web site. However, I do see a number of men from the bariatric population, so it can't be overly feminine.
