Bluejacketeer is the name of an iPhone app in production that will assist sailors in studying for their advancement exam. The name "Bluejacketeer" is a play on from the naval book the "Bluejacket", which is basically the sailor's bible. It provides direction to the sailors, which is what I want the logo to signify.
The logo should either be a symbol of naval heritage and tradition or support and direction.
So there are two routes for this logo.
1) Signify naval heritage and tradition
2) Signify support and direction.
Naval heritage and tradition would best be portrayed using a silhouette of an actual U.S. Navy ship, or something that I can say "That's supposed to be the USS Constitution" for example. The ship can be old or new. Whichever ship used, it can't look too much like a pirate ship. If it does, the U.S. flag flying from it's mast would help with that confusion. I also want an airplane flying in at an angle above the text.
Support and direction would best be exemplified with a lighthouse and or a ship steering wheel.
These quotes are all famous navy quotes known by all sailors (the date is the birth of the navy):
"We have met the enemy and they are ours..."
"17 October 1775"
"I have not yet begun to fight!"
These quotes are NOT the slogan. They are more apart of the logo itself. Their purpose is to signify naval heritage. Please don't place them as if they are the slogan (no framing the quotes for example). If you have any questions about the quotes just ask. The quotes are not required. If they are used properly it is a plus, but if they are used wrong it is a negative.
Please make the colors of the logo compliment the background color in the attached image file.
Thanks guys and gals, and good luck! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I will be checking very often.
