This contest is for badges which will be earned as part of a citizen science project.
***Basic ribbons or something generic like that will not work. We've already got that (see attached), and I want something more interesting.***
The project consists of a series of different tasks/games. Volunteers win up to 10 badges for each. Right now I am looking for 10 badges for one of these tasks, "Equilibrium." See attached description of the task. Entrants in this contest may be invited to a one-on-one project to make badges for the other tasks.
The main requirement is that the badges be interesting. Volunteers should be motivated to do more work in order to see what the next badge looks like. And they will want to post the badges on Facebook. That's a tall order for badges, but the design that comes closest will win.
The badges could be very abstract or they could depict characters in the story. But it is crucial that they be related to the story in some way. You could work off of the theme of "Equilibrium", the nature of the problem volunteers are supposed to solve, etc. Again, basic "badge" or "ribbon" designs will not work ... unless they have been modified to fit the theme in some way.
The badges should be visually striking. They might include numbers (1-10). They might include the name of the task ("Equilibrium"). If I knew exactly what would make for good badges, I'd make them myself. My hope is that you, as designers, can think up something interesting.
You might find it useful to check out the citizen science project itself (gameswithwords.org/VerbCorner). That will give you a sense of how it works and the role badges play. A few minutes will probably be enough. You'll be randomly assigned one task (not necessarily "Equilibrium"), but the interface is the same for all. And if you do more questions, you will unlock other tasks. It may be helpful to see a task other than "Equilibrium" because I do want the badges to be obviously related to their task (something generic that could work for any task is not helpful).
