The aim of this graphic is to put the value of coal to Queensland economy and government into context.
The graphic will start with a quote by Campbell Newman the Premier of Queensland.
"We are in the coal business. If you want decent hospitals, schools and police on the beat we all need to understand that."
- Campbell Newman
Underneath the quote will be a question. Is Queensland really in the coal business?
underneath this will be two pie charts that show how small coal actually is in Queensland. These two pie charts are in the attached document. It is important that the charts don't look just like plain boring charts like those in the word document. It would be great to see some creative ideas of how to represent them.
underneath the graphs will be two facts that further put the size of coal into perspective. the first fact:
Queensland Government gets more money from interest on its savings than it gets from coal royalties.
This fact should be positioned with the first graph about government revenue because they are related. The second fact should be positioned with the graph on Queensland employment. the second fact is:
Health care employs ten times more people in Queensland than the coal industry.
The closing line of the graphic should be 'Coal is small business in Queensland'.
All this info is set out again in the attached document so make sure you have a look at that too. Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing your creative designs.
