Class Afloat
We are a school which brings young people around the world for one semester of each school year aboard a tall ship. Our students are learning about the world, their place in it and how to become leaders of tomorrow. Our tenants are: Ethics, Leadership, Sensitive & Sustainable Practices and Global Citizenship and these 4 tenants combine to form the foundation/core/heart of our Community. We want our young people to feel engaged and excited about the world of opportunity before them and we want our staff members to embrace our tenants and infuse them into their daily lessons, into our marketing, into their interactions with youth and how we make decisions as a community. We know what we stand for but I really want an image/graphic which will illustrate how our 4 tenants are the foundation/core of our Community - so all 5 elements are important. This image is for adults to view and to help them understand who we are and what we want to communicate and help build in our students - a visual representation of our values. We love young people, we love the world around us and we are passionate educators ... just not good artists!
We will use this image on our website to help others visualize our community values and what makes Class Afloat "special". We will use this image in our staff training to help our employees/teachers understand our core values. We will display this image in our school so that our students are reminded of our philosophies and values and so that this image can be a guiding principle.
I want you to be creative!
Simple is better than complicated - something easy to identify with key words, colours and a shape which reflects the message we are trying to communicate. If I were to draw this myself it might be steps, with Community as the foundation, or a bull's eye with Community at the center and the 4 tenants around it - but I am very confident there are more creative and artisitc ways to express this!
Our school colours are deep red, navy blue and silver or white - but these colours are not essential. This is not a school crest or logo, it is a visual representation of a concept.
