We will need a front and back book cover design for a paperback and Kindle book; HOWEVER, FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE INITIAL CONTEST, THE DESIGNER NEED ONLY SUBMIT THE FRONT COVER IDEA.
The winning designer will be required to complete the full cover design at no additional charge.
I've included several book jacket images (see attached) the author selected that have a similar look/feel to the style she'd like for her own book. As you can see, she's drawn to images that have a stark artistic feel.
If you use stock art for your image, please provide information on the cost and licensing agreement required to use it on a for-profit publication. Cost will be a deciding factor. We have also included a low-res version of a "red winged blackbird" print given to the author's by a friend. It also appeals to her as an option for the cover so we've obtained permission to use the high resolution image in the final design, if it's chosen.
Title: The Lucky One
Subtitle: A chilling true account of child sex trafficking and one survivor's journey from brutal captivity to a life of freedom.
Author: Jenni S. Jessen
"Jenni masterfully weaves steadfast truths into a story that shakes our world view, our theology and our ideas of what a human can bear. The hope and redemption she found in the darkest places become available to all of us. We, too, lose our fears as we walk alongside a broken child into wholeness and restored womanhood." - Hettie Brittz, author and motivational speaker
(anticipating 1-2 more)
She was only four years old when she was sold into the sex trade. White picket fences and steepled churches all guarded secrets that were not ever supposed to be told. In kindergarten, she began praying every night that Jesus would let her die. In second grade, she sat in church on a Sunday morning swinging her feet from a wooden pew behind the man who had paid to rape her the night before. Her perpetrators were from all walks of life. An engineer, a police officer, a bait shop owner, business men, farmers, younger men and old; different men all feeding the same lust. The only thing that they had in common was their brutal love for little girls.
She shouldn’t have survived it. If God had answered her prayers, she wouldn’t have. Here is the true account of how she was brought out of captivity and into a life of freedom.
Survivor of human trafficking, Jenni Jessen, knows firsthand the depths of trauma a body can endure. Thirteen years of sexual exploitation did not leave her defeated. She is a wife, a mama, and a broken girl saved by grace. Jenni is creator of Priceless Cube, a tool being used in 40 countries to prevent human trafficking. She and her husband live in SE Asia where they founded Compass 31, to fight human trafficking. Together they provide foster care to teenage mothers and babies rescued from the sex trade. Their foster family includes 6 different people groups, a dog, a cat, and a set of lovebirds named Jack and Diane.
