Dianna's been writing since she was nine years old, when she would hide her masterpieces under the bed to keep them from prying eyes. Today, she's the award-winning author of seven middle grade novels and lives in north Idaho with her husband and a Beagle mix named Stella.

When twelve-year-old Birch learns the rare clock gene she inherited from her grandmother allows her to time travel, she's not excited, she's terrified! After all, Birch has a dismal track record when it comes to succeeding at new endeavors. But when she agrees to try and grant her beloved Gran's last wish by traveling back to 1894 Canada in behalf of animal welfare, she discovers amazing things not only about herself, but about the power of courage. (The Joe in the title, stands for Beautiful Joe, a real-life mixed breed dog from Meaford, Ontario Canada who was abused as a puppy. The woman who rescued him in 1894 was named Margaret Marshall Saunders and she wrote a famous book about him. But since women authors at that time were not respected, she was afraid to try and have the book published. In my story, Birch's job is to travel back in time and convince Margaret to have the book published. My story is a mix of fantasy and historical fiction. And although I want the cover to be lighter rather than dark, at the same time it needs to appeal to middle grade readers and not look like it's aimed at very young children. I hope this all makes sense. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have :)

Young readers ages 8-12 who enjoy reading about fantasy, adventure historical fiction and animals. Most of this story takes place in Ontario, Canada in 1894.

This should be a fun, illustrated cover that will appeal to children ages 8-12 who love fantasy, adventure and dogs. This is a mix of fantasy and historical fiction, and I'd prefer a lighter more whimsical cover. Nothing too dark or mysterious.

Please don't add anything that hints at dark magic. The vast majority of stories in this genre are illustrated, so no photographs are necessary.
